Help get people from Grassy Narrows to River Run 2016!
In May 2016 our community will continue our strong leadership in demanding justice for our community and the environment.
We need your support to make this happen!
We will be coming to Toronto this spring for River Run 2016! We will lead a week of events to raise public awareness about our struggle to get the mercury that was dumped in our river cleaned up. The week will culminate in a large creative march to Queen's Park on June 2: https://www.facebook.com/events/1769190633315081/
Youth from Grassy Narrows will travel to Toronto and perform "Home To Me" at the June 2 march:
We want to hire a bus to get our community members over 1, 700km to Toronto, which is why we need your support. Donate now!
Over 40 years ago our people were poisoned by mercury from a paper mill upstream from our community; the mercury contaminated our river and poisoned our people. Our people are demanding justice because we are still dealing with the ongoing health impacts of this avoidable disaster. It's an inescapable truth that this poison will affect everyone if we don't stand together to protect our water.
For decades, Grassy Narrows community members have been on the front lines of the movement to defend the earth and to uphold indigenous self-determination, culture and spirituality. We have driven away logging companies who were set on clearcutting our forests, but the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources continues to support these destructive industries with its new Forest Management Plan, which calls for clearcut logging on our territory. We must stop them, you can help!
